Officially Windows 2012 r2 is not supported in ESXi 4.1… but it’s not a big problem
– create new VM in the vSphere Client as a Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit).
– download bios file and upload it into VM folder
– download .vmx file and add following:
bios440.filename = "bios.440.rom"
mce.enable = TRUE
cpuid.hypervisor.v0 = FALSE
vmGenCounter.enable = FALSE
– upload edited .vmx file into vm folder
– power on VM and install Windows 2012 R2
